Dr John Lyon - MBChB (Birmingham) 1986, DRCOG, MRCGP, D.Occ.Med. First year of full registration 1987
John was born in Dunblane, brought up in Edinburgh and then trained, qualified and worked (briefly) in Birmingham. Thereafter, he undertook further specialist training for General Practice in Fife before living and working in Australia for three years. He joined Taynuilt Medical Practice in 1993.
As with all the Partners, John's chief interest is family medicine. However, within this, he has a particular interest in minor surgery and dermatology. He holds the Family Planning Certificate and is a trained inserter for both intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUCD's) and sub-dermal contraceptive implants.
Outwith the practice, John is the Clinical Director for the Oban, Lorn and the Isles locality of the Argyll and Bute Community Health Partnership. He is also a Quality and Outcomes Framework facilitator (part of the GP contract).
John's outside interests
include dermatology and occupational health. He works as a Hospital Practitioner in
Dermatology in the Oban , Lorn and Islands Rural General Hospital most months and is flexibe with
his occupational health committments.
All of this requires time away from the Practice which makes him, at times, hard
to get hold of!
